First photometric laboratory opens in Armenia

On September 17, within the framework of  UNDP-RTF regional project “Regulatory Framework to Promote Energy Efficiency in Countries of the Eurasian Economic Union”, the official opening of a new photometric laboratory equipped with modern devices took place at “Energy Adjustment” a branch of the “Scientific Research Institute of Energy” CJSC. Welcoming speeches were delivered by Hakob Vardanyan, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures of the Republic of Armenia, Dmitry Mariyasin, UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia, as well as Sergey Abrahamyan, Head of the Photometric Laboratory at “Scientific Research Institute of Energy” CJSC.

In his speech the Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure expressed his belief that opening of the photometric laboratory was an important achievement in the development of the industry, emphasizing that it was the only one in the region that ensured compliance with the requirements of the EAEU Technical Regulation “On requirements for energy efficiency of energy-consuming devices”,  thus supporting the promotion and use of high quality energy-efficient lighting in the market.

During the ceremony, the technical equipment and capabilities of the laboratory were presented, followed by a demonstration of lighting devices testing.

Representatives of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Armenia, national authorities of Armenia, international structures, specialized organizations were among the attendees of the event.

In the scope of the comprehensive action plan of UNDP-RTF “Regulatory Framework to Promote Energy Efficiency in Countries of the Eurasian Economic Union” regional project measures are taken to strengthen the capabilities  and mechanisms assessing compliance of energy efficiency indicators and other lighting indicators of equipment and systems of indoor and outdoor lighting used in Armenia with the requirements of the current regulatory field.
